Background
In 1882 the Edison Electric Illuminating Company of New York brought electric light to parts of Manhattan, but most Americans still lit their homes with gas light and candles for another fifty years. By 1925, only half of all homes in the U.S. have electric power.
We have been using the same system for a century. Again, not much progress since the 1920s. We turn on the light when we enter a room and off when we leave, without thinking about it because we have been doing it all our lives.
Today we can order the specific smart light to turn on and off with smart speakers and smart lights. For example, “Alexa, turn on the kitchen light,” but you can’t say, “Alexa, turn on the light,” unless you have a smart light named “light” in the room you are in. It doesn’t know where you are to turn on the light in the room you are in.
Product
Ambient intelligence (AmI) refers to a combination of smart technologies and IoT that are sensitive and responsive to our needs. They are integrated into our environment, and only the natural user interface, such as voice and gesture, remains perceivable by the users. It would also anticipate user behaviors to reduce the user’s commands.
